In our first postseason game that wasn't a Stanley Cup final once again the Blackhawks proved who was the dominant franchise by sweeping the Avalanche in two straight games.
Game 1
The Blackhawks took the early lead by getting goals by Ovechkin, Kessel, Chara, and Niedermayer but the Avalanche came back with an OT goal from Semen and regular goal from Naslund going into the night games where Thornton and Nash gave the Hawks the lead once again. The Avalanche had some pretty big guns up for them on Sunday including their goalie Kiprusoff so the Hawks needed to continue the pressure. That is when Evgeni Malkin stepped it up in the first Sunday game where he scored a powerplay goal and added two assists. would it be enough to hold off the Avalanche with Iginla and Kipper remaining? Iginla did his part by adding a powerplay goal and 3 assists but Kipper collapsed giving up 5 goals and getting the loss giving the Blackhawks the victory 8-6
Game 2
The Blackhawks made a statement in this one dominating a Avalanche team that seemed out of their league 14-4. Rick Nash was the hero with three unassisted goals including a shorthanded
The rest of the Hawks in the conga line were Thornton, Ovechkin, Kessel, St. Louis, Niedermayer, and Gonchar. The Blackhawks enforcers proved that the Hawks have the toughest team in the league adding a fight each by Orr and Carcillo
The Avalanche featured another awful performance from the Kipper who allowed 5 goals and got another loss. The only goals came from Vanek and Crosby to end another disappointing Avalanche season.
