Basically for centers it is easy... The backup would go in for the REd Light guy in most cases... For Wingers and Defense it gets a bit more complicated... Basically I got down the list and thats how I sub... So if the red light guy was 1st listed and didn't play... I would make the first sub the red light player... If you have two wingers that did not play... I will go in order and take the person who fits the sub... Example if you had 2 Wingers that didn't play... Yet the Red Light guy was listed below the other winger... Then I would take the second sub as the red light guy... Same with defense etc... There is a chance you might not have 3 Red Light guys... Like if you had only 2 centers play or 1 that could be one way... Already won a shoot out this year that sub went in for red light guy... I had 2 assists and person I played had 2 assists and a minor... I think it was caps and Turgeon went in for injured center he had with red light... I hope this clears up any confusion about this issue... Take Care ...
