I think this trade should solidify your defensemen. I'm giving you Murphy as insurance in case Pothier has any issues recovering from his season ending injury. I figure Murphy & Pothier should both see time in your top 4 D-men.
Kings will trade...
D-Brian Pothier (Caps)*
D-Cory Murphy (Fla)
G-Brett Bennett (Phoenix)
For
Your 2nd Round Pick 2008 (12th Overall) and Ron Francis
*Pothier had last year end on an injury, that is why I'm including Murphy in the deal with him... Otherwise I'd want a 2nd round Pick for him alone... I'd take some time to check into his status if your interested in that trade offer... Before his injury Pothier had 5 Goals, 14 Points in 38 Games... That put him on pace for about 10+ Goals and 30ish points. He should be good for about 30+ points and 5-10+ Goals a season. The year before last he logged as much as 30 minutes in games... If you decide to go with this option, just check into his health to make sure he should recover without any issues. I have him in my top 9 D-men, I just don't really like the Capitals, it makes me think of Dale Hunter's cheap shot.
Cory Murphy is supposed to be a power play specialist, he had 12 points on the PP last year... Florida signed him from europe, just like the Devils signed Rafalski years ago, or how Zidlicky signed with Nashville... Murphy had 17 points in 47 games, so he could be good for about 30+ points in a full season... Before coming over from Europe he was a pretty good offensive D-man... He had 13 Goals, 50 Points in 45 games in 2006-07 in Finland... In 2005-2006 he had 13 Goals, 35 Points in 44 games in Sweden... In 2004-2005 he had 12 Goals, 35 Points in 56 games in Finland... In 2003-2004 he had 18 Goals, 44 Points, in 56 games in Finland... I think he would have a shot to stay in your top 4 D-men... I have him in my top 9, I'm just not a fan of the Panthers to be honest.
Brett Bennett is a good 20 year old prospect Goalie in the Phoenix organization... I hate Phoenix, otherwise I'd probably be trying to get more for him in a trade... I think at worse he can end up as a backup in the NHL, he is at least 2-3 years away from pro hockey though... He has put up some pretty impressive numbers in short stints, I read some good things about him after I already had him too... In 2004-05 Playing for the US National Team U17 in 21 games, he had 1 shut out, a 2.44 GAA and a .936 Save Percentage... In 2005-06 Playing for the US National Team U18 in 5 games, he had a 1.26 GAA and a .960 Save Percentage... In 2006-07 he played 1 game for Boson U, letting up only 1 goal, with a .944 Save Percentage... In 2007-08 he had 3 Shut Outs, with a 2.63 GAA over 31 games at Boston U... He should fit in well on your team as a young goalie with a fair amount of upside.
I guess let me know, I probably will offer these guys in another trade so they might be gone if wait too long...
I'll keep this trade open until September 24th at 4:20 PM... I might still do deal after that but not obligated to...
