I'm pretty sure I'll regret this in the short term if nothing else... I figure this should shore up your goalie situation for relatively cheap...
Kings will trade...
G-Stephen Valiquette (Rangers)
G-Brett Bennett (Phoenix)
For
Sharks
10th Overall pick
Valiquette should solidify your situation at goalie, you can ride the Rangers... He is 6'6 so will still have value if the NHL expands the net as many are trying to get passed... Not to mentin taller goalies are allowed to wear more equipment to protect their body from injury which helps... In 13 games played, he had 5 Wins, 2 Shut Outs, a .916 Save Percentage and a 2.19 GAA... I figure for the 10th pick, it is worth it for him alone, your basically trading a 2nd rounder... You don't have to worry if he plays, his numbers are solid, since its likely the rangers will try to rest Henrik more... Not to mention he often complains about those migraines.
Brett Bennett is a good 20 year old prospect Goalie in the Phoenix organization... I hate Phoenix, otherwise I'd probably be trying to get more for him in a trade... I think at worse he can end up as a backup in the NHL, he is at least 2-3 years away from pro hockey though... He has put up some pretty impressive numbers in short stints, I read some good things about him after I already had him too... In 2004-05 Playing for the US National Team U17 in 21 games, he had 1 shut out, a 2.44 GAA and a .936 Save Percentage... In 2005-06 Playing for the US National Team U18 in 5 games, he had a 1.26 GAA and a .960 Save Percentage... In 2006-07 he played 1 game for Boson U, letting up only 1 goal, with a .944 Save Percentage... In 2007-08 he had 3 Shut Outs, with a 2.63 GAA over 31 games at Boston U... He should fit in well on your team as a young goalie with a fair amount of upside.
You can at worse package Bennett in a trade involving the Phoenix goalies to Tampa... I figure you got 2 of their goalies already, I don't mind if you secure Phoenix... I'm willing to let you have them and the Rangers if you do this trade... I doubt I'd be taking anybody your looking at with the 10th pick... Not to mention you won the division, this should increase your chances of doing it again... I think on paper at least the Rangers have the best defense in the East since they added Redden...
Do you really want to go into the season trusting the goalies you currently have to play in case Henrik don't? I think this is a pretty fair trade for you, I think you win in the short term on this for sure... I have to gamble I can compensate to equal things out in the long term hehe... If it was a team other than the Rangers, I'd be a lot less likely to trade him...
I'll keep this trade open until September 18th at 4:20 PM... I might still do the deal after that but I'm not obligated to...
